On the way to work this morning, around 6:45, I hit a patch of black ice. It really surprised me. It was raining, but the ground was still frozen so that the rain was freezing on impact (it wasn't freezing rain until it hit the ground, IOW). I skidded and came to a stop with the back end of my car up a steep enbankment and the front end facing what was on the other side of the road, which was a 15-foot drop. The rear of the driver's side was off the ground about 45°. I'm so thankful to the Lord that it wasn't worse. The police who responded were so kind and helpful. I was only about 1½ miles from my house, so it was my local cops who responded. They knew it wasn't my fault; it was just one of those things. There were no other vehicles around when I was spinning out of control, which is a HUGE blessing because I ended up on the opposite side of the road from where I was driving. A tow truck came and got my car off the hill and I was able to drive it to work. Mark, meanwhile, showed up to make sure I was okay. He had to go to an ATM to get money because the tow truck service only takes cash. Before he came back, though, the tow truck driver and the two cops told me that I should be okay to drive to work, which was just about 4 miles away. I'm still kind of shaken up, but I'm alive to tell the tale. I'm very, very, very thankful for the Lord's protection!
After I got off work DH and I took my car to the mechanic to have it looked over, which is something that the police officers suggested. Did I mention before how awesome they were?
After we did that we went to Aldi's to get a few things I needed for DD3's birthday tomorrow. Then we went to Dollar General to get her a birthday card. Then we went to hospice to visit Mom.
I was gone from home for 12 hours. My back and left shoulder are sore from the impact of the accident, but I'M ALIVE to feel the pain!
The Pollyanna part of me keeps thanking Jesus for literally taking the wheel this morning. The very, very so-tired-my-eyes-can't-fully-open part of me is wondering when we're going to catch a break. If you'll recall, someone backed into DH's car the same day my mom had her heart attack and strokes. It's still at the body shop. If it weren't for Mom's car, we'd have no transportation at all right now.
