The most recent news that I've seen is that she is in hospice.

Hi, Karen. There really is nothing new to report other than she grows a little worse every day. Her breathing is more shallow, her color is yellower, which I suppose is a sign that she's losing liver function. She is being kept comfortable. She's been mostly unresponsive since I posted that thread where Mom held up her hand because she wanted to comfort me.
I've been playing flute for Mom the last couple of days. I probably won't tonight, but I'm planning to resume that tomorrow. She loves my flute music. She thinks I should've been in the CSO (Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra) and won't hear of the fact that I'm not that good. I admit I'm pretty good, but nowhere near of that caliber. The staff have enjoyed the music, too.
My sisters and I have been trying to find Mom's funeral plans. She said she did them in advance, but we can't find them anywhere. Please pray that we find them so that we can honor Mom exactly the way she wants us to. Thanks!
I'm bone weary after a difficult day at work. So many of my customers know me personally and so I end up having to talk about Mom's situation a whole lot more than I'd like. There is no escape from this. It's like a special kind of hell in a way. In a much greater way, it's truly a blessing to be able to be there for Mom just as she's been there for me and my sisters our whole lives.

I also want to share about the hospice center itself. It's a beautiful facility. Mom is in a large room and there is plenty of seating for visitors. The staff there are absolutely wonderful. They like hearing stories about who Mom was before the heart attack and strokes. Being able to tell those stories is healing for us, too. They keep telling us that they want to be there for the families as well as the patients. They are such a blessing by helping us get through this difficult time.

I wish I could hear your beautiful flute music…
I am so glad that the Hospice staff are giving her, and all of you, good care.
Prayers that you find her funeral plans. ( did she just write them out herself, just for you to refer to, or with the assistance of a funeral home? If she did it thru the FH, they would have a copy)
Praying for all of you….

We think she did it through a funeral home. We just don't know which one. Oh no!!! Maybe someone ( a friend or family member who has a bit more time than you) could call all of the nearby ones for you, and just ask. Then you and your sister could contact them??? |

I'm so sorry that you have to go thru this.
It is very hard.
On the other hand, it is a true privilege to be this close to someone .... your mother ...
and to walk this part of life's journey with her.
Playing your flute for her is absolutely beautiful.
I'll miss my mom forever,
and honestly, sometimes I wish I'd wake up from this reality.
My mom went very fast also .... it is such a surreal experience.
But .... remember .... you are very close .... and it is a very loving act for your mom to have you,
but also for you to have your mom.
I wouldn't change ANYTHING about what we went thru with my mom
(except the fact that I was in CA two wks. before).
Anyway ..... if you think your mom had funeral plans that a funeral home might know something about,
definitely call ... call every one if you have to.
But I'd think if you call one & your mom definitely did have a plan, but not with them, they might have a way to checking this out to confirm,
because in the case of "pre-pay funeral" arrangements, the funeral homes (most, I think) have a reciprocal agreement .... like if mom changed her
mind about which funeral home she wanted.
My mom did not do pre-plan, and she never really wrote much out,
but she did leave pertinent dates & a list of her favorite songs in her Bible.
My sisters & I wrote up her obituary the best that we could,
& we chose scripture & songs from what she had indicated in her Bible.
((hugs)). I understand what you're going thru.
