Funny how little things can just make your day. My Dad had a stroke 2 years ago and hasn't been the same since. It's pushed him into dementia. He sometimes forgets who my Mom is. Can't remember many things. But for some reason he remembers his time up at a Boys Club Camp in Wisconsin where he spent many, many summers as a camper then as a volunteer as a teen. Dad didn't come from a loving home so this was his escape. He repeats stories from camp to us all the time. Mom says it was the best time of his life so he must go there as his happy place, maybe? Anyway, Mom & Dad had to give up their house this year. We packed and got rid of so much stuff. Just now Mom is making headway in their new place and came across a letter from a man who went to camp with my Dad. The letter was from July. She gave it to me and asked me to email the man. So, I did. I also asked the man if he had any pictures he could share with me so I could show Dad - also that I would read his letters to him and would respond back. 20 minutes later I had a return email! I think the guy might be just as excited as I am. It was a short email because he's going through pictures and will get something put together for me. He says he has lots of pictures both old and new since he visited the camp last summer. I can't wait to share with Dad.

That's really neat! What a blessing this will be for your dad! And it sounds like this man too.

So the guy sent me 20+ pictures. Some from when they were at camp as boys and some from a reunion this past summer. I turned them into a photo book on Walgreens and I'm picking it up this afternoon. Dad's birthday is Saturday! I can't wait to give this to him.

I cried when I opened the first set of pictures.
My kids & husband are anxious to see the pictures since this is all my Dad talks about. He doesn't have man memories left - but of camp it's vivid.

I was surprised with more pictures this morning! A lot of kids posing in the camp (1961) and some newer pictures of inside the buildings. I already printed the book. (I guess I was too excited!) Now, what should I do with these pictures? Make another book or make a photo collage that I can frame? Or perhaps something else? I have a brochure and some pictures of my parents at the camp in 1999.

Well this sure has blossomed into something! The guy is sending some old brochures he has of the camp via mail. He also has a lot more pictures to send, but wanted to make sure he wasn't overwhelming me.
Now, he has given me the name and number of another man who was in camp with my Dad and served in the Air Force with him! I'm going to see if Dad wants to call him first then I'll follow up.
Blossoming? Snowballing? God is so good!
