How much did it cost? I've called our vet and was surprised at how much it was. I'm curious to see if it's the norm or not. It includes a 2 night stay to keep an eye on the cat and administer meds etc. She quoted me $173.25! Eeek! One of cats is a bit out of control in the scratching department. He is an all inside cat and we do trim his claws regularly. He has a scratching post but he likes to also use "other" surfaces.

I don't remember the cost but I KNOW it was more than that and it was 8 years ago!
Have you tried the little rubber tips you can put on the claws? I haven't but have heard people who have had success.

OH wait.. I called back to find out where we were on shots etc.. and the declaw price I was quoted earlier was actually a dog neuter price. It's $185 for the declawing. Lisa, I have never heard of rubber tips for cat claws...

Fascinating!! The cats with colored nails look like they've been to the salon for a "pawdicure".

That sounds about average to me. Sounds like it covers everything from the surgery to the meds.
Soft Paws might be worth a try. In the past the glue that came with them was not that great - but that may have changed since I haven't used them in years. Superglue can work though if the glue that comes with it doesn't.
There are various deterrents that can help too if your cat is just going for one or two spots. I used something like double-sided tape for quite awhile when one of my cats was using the edges of the couch.
