My dh hates antivirus software and says that they are worse than actual viruses, so we have never used one. When we have gotten one, I think that I remember once, he goes in and fixes it himself. I have no clue what he does.

We use malware bytes and avast. (And by "we", I mean the people in the house who know what it all means. Not me. ).

AVG or Avast are the current favorites of my 35+ year computer experience husband.

We can get Norton free through the phone/internet company we use (Century Link). That's what we are currently using.

Warning on Norton. It is the LAST virus protection Dh would use. Most computers he fixes either had no virus protection or Norton. You'd be better off to get AVG or Avast. They are also free and much more effective.

We have had Norton and got viruses… to the point that our computer was completely un-usable. I had heard of AVG and Avast… and wondered it they were ok to use. Thanks for the info, ladies!!!

Malwarebytes is a good program to run occasionally. It doesn't protect constantly like anti virus but catches malware that is put on your computer thru some sneaky, naught, computery way. See? I'm NOT the expert.

Strange - we haven't had any issues with Norton. We used it for several years, went so something else for a couple years (don't remember what), then went back to Norton (when we found out we could get it free).
But, if it makes a difference, we also don't do anything that's wireless either. Perhaps less risks that way??
