soup and bread is my main meal for my little ladies luncheon... but i feel like it's lacking a little something else. i was thinking deviled eggs but my mother in law is famous for hers and i don't want to ask her, nor do i want to make any and step on her toes (way overthinking, I know).
what else... finger type food... might go with the soup and bread (not sandwiches please)? something i can have on the table?

veggie platter or fruit cheese and crackers
(I hate deviled eggs so that would never even cross my mind to make those.)

a coffee cake? something sweet.
maybe a roll up....with a smear on the flour tortilla flats, rolled up and sliced....lots of recipes online, you could do one w/ more vegetables, or spicy, or with lunch meat.
cookies
vege tray, celery with cream cheese, or peanut butter, or chocolate

grapes and sliced apples? carrots and celery and dip, cheese ball and crackers (it's easier than it sounds) My grandmother always had pickles and nuts on the tables at like Thanksgiving and Christmas for people to snack on while waiting, and mints.

Not a finger food, but I think that salad goes well with soup and bread. Sort of olive garden-esque. I'd probably do a green salad (or caesar salad), and a fruit salad, and coffee/dessert. But, we've already established that I overdo things too, so, take that for what it's worth. You could do baked potatoes as well, as long as you're not making potato soup. And, depending on what types of soup you serve, you could have condiments for the soup too. (Cheese, scallions, bacon, sour cream - for potato soup. Tortilla chips, cheese, sour cream for tortilla soup. etc.)

I was saving fruit for dessert as I have a diabetic coming... I have berries, lots and lots of berries. I also made lemon squares and raspberry squares and will have chocolate on there somewhere.
I'm leaning toward salad... one of the reasons I didn't want anything else (besides finger food) was because I don't have a lot of matching silverware. I BOUGHT cheap soup spoons so they would match (didn't have enough regular spoons anyway)... but now if I put forks out there (if I have enough) nothing will match... nothing. Vain much?

People aren't coming to see if your silverware matches. Don't sweat the small stuff!

Is it even possible to have children in the home, and have complete sets of silverware? My kids missed that memo, if so.

What about a chunk of cheese, eg cheddar, to serve with it?

Lambs, the food sounds delicious! fwiw, we have purposely mismatched color fiesta plates, mugs and bowls...and purposely a variety of silverplate serving utensils of all shapes, styles and sizes (thrifted of course, because it's a fun collection/hobby of mine) and two types of sort-of-coordinating glassware... but our silverware - which was a wedding shower gift 20 years ago is dwindling in number I previously had 12 of everything and 20 teaspoons! All of a sudden, the last 6 months or so, I've noticed silverware started disappearing? dks are older, but more careless? or rebelling against dish duty? I hope you have a wonderful time and are blessed in your obedience to the call of hospitality

I have a complete set of silverware & kids! But only because I got a complete set for Christmas and got them out of the box and into the drawer last week. Don't let your silverware concern you Lamby! I wouldn't, if I could come to your house for lunch I wouldn't even look at the silverware.
