DS's music teacher sent out a frantic e-mail in the middle of the night. While she was performing in a symphony in another town last evening, someone broke the window in her car and stole her computer and a travel bag. In the bag happened to be all the monthly tuition checks from her music students. I feel so bad for her. And all ~20 of us parents have to scramble too, to figure out the best thing to do on our end. And it's a bank holiday. I thought at the very least there would be a "stop payment" fee. The good news - the fraud protection line on our bank was open today - they've closed the account and told me to go in the morning to reestablish a new account. And there will be no fees! Hooray! I was surprised at that. Anyone ever had a check lost or stolen? How did you take care of it?

I've never had one stolen, but I have lost a few. I just sort of hope for the best since sometimes, the cancellation fee is more than the check was written for. It is a little disconcerting though. I hope the woman isn't out all that money - that would be a bummer!

Not personally... but as a bank branch manager I dealt with it on the other end. Not fun for anybody.
