Mom will only talk to the neurologist. She told him her name yesterday and told him twice tonight. She can talk, not clearly, but she can. She's just choosing not to talk to us, probably because she knows it's hard to understand her. The neurologist held up a $20 bill, asked her what it was and she told him. My sister and I were teasing each other and mom was quietly laughing at us. She's more responsive than she was last night. I'm so grateful to see the progress. Her right arm is not in the same fixed position, but it's still weaker than her left arm.

Oh my .... so sorry. I know this scare, as my mom had a bad attack of A-Fib back right before Christmas, one year ago.
Is your mom showing any improvement?
My thoughts are with all of you ... and yes, I will pray.

Mom told me "Good morning," this morning. I walked in and told her good morning. She said it back to me. It was very faint and barely discernible, but she said it! That's the first time she's talked to me! It's also the only time all day, but I'll take it!
My sisters and I were at the hospital all morning and for much of the afternoon. I had to get some groceries. A meal was provided for us from our most recent former church (we're between churches right now). The outpouring of love, concern, and prayers from them have been amazing.
She can't chew food, but she can sip from a straw, be fed from a spoon things like applesauce and pudding, and take oral medications.
Mom is being moved to a different floor tomorrow. She's still not really talking at all, but she does seem to be aware of us and what's going on. She knows where she is and she asked, "How long?" because she truly had no idea how much time has passed.
Social worker came to start a plan for when she's ready to be released, which still isn't for awhile yet. She was talking about Mom being moved to LTAC from the hospital and from there going to rehab. We'll see how this unfolds.
The prayers from so many people are so very much felt and appreciated!
