Just don't make the same mistake that I made. We used - well, let me see if I can find the colors...well, I can't find it online, so I'll have to wait and look on the paint cans. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago, we painted the bathroom, and used one color for the walls (kind of a beachy color), and there was a lighter version of it - much lighter on the sample paper, so we thought we'd do that one on the ceiling. When you have them that close together in a smaller space, they look too much alike still. It feels like you're in a beach cave. I've got to repaint the ceiling. So, whatever you do, don't paint the ceiling something that's too similar to the wall color. Even a few shades lighter (like ours is), is too similar. I'm going to look for a very light sky blue (almost whitish but with a touch of blue in it), and see if that looks better. Otherwise, I'm just going to do a creamish color. Live and learn, I guess. What types of things are calming for you? If it's flowers, maybe some floral colors. Or outdoor things, maybe some meadowy types of colors. Autumn - maybe some warm shades. (They don't have to be dark to be warm.) I'd probably go with whatever represented calm to me. That's why I chose the beachy colors.

Something I did this yr - was select a paint color for every room of the house. even tho we only painted a few in december, we'll be doing the rest in the next yr or so. that way ---i know all rooms will somewhat flow together.
in the past, i'd paint one room and then later, another. makes the house seem chaotic
even if it takes a while to get around to painting, it made me feel good knowing i had a plan for once.
and, i selected dover white for all woodwork, every room, every ceiling. something to unify the place.
