allow yourself grace and time to adjust. When my youngest needed to be on a gluten free diet I about how a melt down because I felt I had to learn everything there was immediately. Course that wasn't possible. I'd also say plan on being cranky for awhile. You will go through withdraw and it might not be pretty. Inform others in your household as well so they can hopefully but supportive and understanding.

Everything paliz said! It is really tough in the beginning and I can relate to the cranky part! I had to go low fat, low sodium and bulked up on fiber to lose weight to get my high blood pressure under control. It's really hard to avoid things you really miss, but so very worth it in the long run. I would suggest you set aside time to really explore the grocery store and read those labels. Make sure you bring home LOTS of options so you have plenty of choices. I also challenge myself to bring home 2-3 new items each time I shop so I continuously change things up and don't get bored with eating the same things all the time! Good luck to you...you CAN do this!

Yes.
When I was in college, I began getting debilitating migraines. The first one was so severe that the ER doctors thought I was having a stroke. I had lost all the feeling/movement on the left side of my body.
After running a baziliion tests, it was discovered that cheese (CHEESE!) was causing the migraines.
I had to stop all cheese immediately.
Then, just a few years ago, I was having heart palpitations. After testing, it was decided that it was linked to dehydration and I had to WAY up the water and eliminate all processed foods. That eventually led to going kosher and then vegan.
I think the main thing that helped me was realizing that I had all the power in the world to make the right decision in the immediate. I didn't think about NEVER being able to eat cheese again (it's been 16 years). I thought about saying "no" at this meal. That's pretty easy to do. And, eventually, it becomes routine to do it. (Though I will forever be frustrated by the endless conversations with waiters and chefs about cheese in their food)

for a while, i am on vegetables (fresh, and steamed), very small quantity of fruit daily, and fish once or twice a week, nuts and seeds, oats ok
after a while, more carbs and meat, cheese, eggs....but not for a while.
and, obviously, if i ate lots of veges to begin with - i might not need this new routine, so i am breaking very bad habits
