Without sunshine? I already drink plenty of milk, and really, I should cut back on milk.
I'm not going to get much sunshine this winter (midwest).
Had my Oncologist check up today. All good, really. They are keeping me on my cancer med another 5 years (so 10 yrs. total). Benefit outweighs risk. I'd like to see the specifics of the study (just out recently) that supports this.
Need to keep exercising. Bones aren't in good shape, but there's hope for strengthening them. I'm challenging myself, because I'll see the doc again in 6 mo.
My calcium & Vit D results weren't ready when I was there, so I couldn't ask about it .... but when I left they had the results & my Vit. D could stand to be better. I'm hyper sensitive about this because low Vit. D is not good. While I get Vit D in my calcium, I CANNOT up my calcium because I'm already at the upper limit, and they don't want me there ... especially going over as I have in the past.
I noticed in the past that when my Calcium is higher, my Vit. D is higher. But they don't want my Calcium higher. So .... how am I going to increase the Vit D?
If I take a Vit D supplement, isn't it best to take with Magnesium? I tried that once (years ago), I think. More magnesium gave me diarrhea. Poo. Don't want that!
Is Vit D tied to SADS (seasonal affective disorder .... something or other)? I had that BAD last year. Really do NOT want a repeat of that this year.

Cod liver oil and a lot of fishes have higher amounts of Vit. D in them. Eggs too. I want to say mushrooms, :hmm: I'm not sure if a lot of fishes have magnesium in them or not. I don't eat seafood, so I'm not up on my seafood facts. You might check and see if there is magnesium in them. Can you halve your magnesium dosage so that it doesn't cause you stomach issues? Glad that your checkup went well.

Hmmm, I already eat a lot of fish, but I could do better. Mushroom & eggs also.
I think I'll find a supplement & try that for a while.
Do you still use Shaklee products? Tell me about them.

There are different kinds of magnesium, I know that there are kinds that do not have a laxative effect. We supplement vitamin d with a gummy vitamin. I am sure that there are better options, but we are much more likely to remember the gummy vitamins. For the seasonal issues, we use a happy light. It makes a huge difference. www.verilux.com/light-therapy-lamps/happylight-6000/

Oh wow, I haven't used shaklee stuff in a million years. Once upon a time, they were one of the only whole food vitamin companies, so they pretty much had a monopoly on that market. Once that type of lifestyle became more in-vogue, they had a lot more companies to compete with. (And, the other companies didn't require membership, so, it was easy to shift away from them.) I don't know if shaklee has improved b/c I haven't used them in so long, but, imo, from what I previously knew shaklee to be, there are other companies that are better (imo). My preference for the last several years is Garden of Life. It's unfortunately pricey though. The cheapest that I usually find them is vitaminshoppe.com.

I was Vit D deficient and had to take 50,000 units weekly for a month, then take 5000 units / day… Have been doing that for a year.
It's hard to get THAT much in your diet alone.
Not familiar with Shaklee and other vitamin companies, so no help there.

i don't take my Vit D with anyone extra just what is already in the Vit D supplement. I was on 15,000 a day…finally back to 1,000 a day
if you are low and already eating healthy I'd look into a natural supplement.

Mymoo .... so you do not take it with anything else?
Have you had your blood drawn to have your Vit. D level checked?

Mymoo .... so you do not take it with anything else? Have you had your blood drawn to have your Vit. D level checked? Not Mymoo, but I think I do something similar. I'm on 5000u/day, and get my level drawn each year with my physical. Vit D3…. nothing else.

My vitamin D level was low after my physical last year. They do a bunch of blood stuff every year, and I got a letter in the mail telling me that the Vit. D was low. I haven't really done enough about it though.
