My DS played the entire Fresh/Soph game last night. Then turned around and played the entire game of the JV game, except for sitting out a free throw so that the coach could talk to him for a few seconds. Here's the thing, its happened in 2 games now. He runs so hard, he needs to spit. All that mucus he swallows and it makes him nauseated. He threw up on the way home, but it was just saliva, he hadn't ate anything for 6 hours by that time. Should I put a roll of paper towels on the bench for time outs for him to spit? What in the world do basketball players do? I am guessing this is what is making him sick. I wondered too if it was all the adrenaline or running so much that shuts down his colon all that time? I know when fight or flight kicks in your colon is less active, at least mine is! I know from experience. And he does have issues with being on the constipated side. He clogs up the toilet every single time. How do basketball players spit?

you ever see those sweat towels they wipe their faces and such with…most spit unto the towels too. and he is not getting enough pre game hydration and fuel….I'd change up something if you can in regards to that.

Really depends on the person. My dh is a total spitter during physical activity.
Totally spits then rubs his shoe over it to "clean it up."

When I run I spit all the time. I would get a towel and let him use it. When i am on the treadmill and camntspit I spit into my towel.

He has not had any more problems with it so he must have just been dehydrated that night or maybe a touch of a virus. Anyway he seems to be ok now. We survived 9 games this week between the two kids' basketball games and then 7 practices this week for volleyball, basketball and cheer. No wonder we spend over $1000 per month in gasoline! It used to cost $50 to fill up the van, now it is in the $20s. Hopefully we won't be over $1000 this month.
