Anyone here??? I am so happy to have today and tomorrow off of work! ( school). Years ago, it would be February vacation for the whole week. Now we just get M+ Tu. Have lots of little projects and some cooking/ baking to do today. Was planning a day "in" anyway because of prediction of snow last night. ALL we got was some frozen stuff. Going to make some chocolate chip cookies and brownies, a pork tenderloin for dinner...... And look at some new recipes. We celebrated Valentine's Day with family ( My Mom, DH, the kids, the boys girlfriends) on Sat night. We ordered Chinese. Yesterday DH and I took a drive and walked the grounds of a retreat center. So pretty and peaceful. It was really cold and windy, as it was by the ocean, so we detoured into the chapel a few times to pray . www.cottages-gardens.com/Connecticut-Cottages-Gardens/June-2013/Discover-peaceful-Enders-Island-off-of-the-coast-of-Mystic/
And we stopped for a late lunch / early dinner at a really nice steakhouse. Nice day !! Off to organize piles of paperwork and bills on my desk... What's everyone up to today? Have a great day!!!!

Hi! I'm hanging out in a condo on South Padre Island, TX. The weather is crappy; rainy, windy. We head home to Minnesota on Wednesday so it's a bummer that the weather is icky our last two days. More Netflix and book reading on for today! Quiet and peaceful.

Hi! We've had lots of snow lately - we've got over a foot at our house. We had a green Christmas but a white Valentines Day - LOL! We were supposed to have a 4 day weekend this weekend (off Friday and Monday). Then it went to a 3-day as Friday was a pre-planned snow day that suddenly need to be used. But then the snow-day got snowed on again so we ended up with it off again! That's okay though. We've done lots of sledding. It has been a bit warmer so our powdery dry snow moistened enough to actually pack and build a snowman. We have put in lots of exercise shoveling in the last couple of weeks. My neighbor saw me out sledding with the kids a couple days ago and I told him that shoveling is good exercise but sledding is FUN exercise.
DH's birthday was Valentine's Day. To celebrate, my dad took us to dinner on Friday and we ordered Pizza Hut for lunch after church on Sunday.
DD's 7th birthday is on the 28th. DS wanted to pick out a birthday present for her so we used our long weekend to do that. Still need to come up with a birthday party plan though...I'm bad at planning these things and I don't like doing it. Cheap options are hard too. Our house is small and not really a great option. Park (like we do for DS in the summer) is not great at this time of year around here - too unpredictable with weather. Need to decide in the next day or so though! If anyone has any suggestions, send them my way!
In the not so fun this weekend, Sarge, the youngest of our 2 dogs (the one the was originally my mom's) had 2 seizures over the course of 4 days. He is just a little over 1 year old - the right age for epilepsy to show up. He is totally fine 99% of the time - eats, plays, socializes totally normally. The first seizure was on Valentine's day, the second yesterday. I "ignored" (watchfully ignored) the first one, thinking that if it is something that only occurs once every several months then so be it. But after the second one a couple days later, "ignoring" it wasn't an option. Given that at this point they are short and he totally recovers afterward, who knows if he has had others at night or while we are not with him. He was normal on vet exam today. We ran bloodwork which we will get back tomorrow but it will likely be normal as well. He started tonight on meds to control the seizures. He will be fine, I know, as I've walked this road with plenty of other people's dogs over time. But it is new for my own.
I think going through this with Sarge having previously been Mom's dog has triggered a wave of grief that has been under the surface for a long time. I miss her so much. I was out at my dad's with the kids this afternoon doing some stuff and had a really good time. (Kids were having fun on a massive snow drift that formed in their sunken patio!) My dad has learned (re-learned) to do life's needs on his own and it is good to see him finding ways to move forward. I think in some ways helping my dad in the last few months has kind of been my focus. Now that he is moving forward, maybe my own grief is being realized more. It has been hard this weekend...
BUT, I know God is still good. Our church was a part of livestream women's conference at our church a couple weeks ago (or part of it - part got cancelled due to snow). The verse of focus was Proberbs 3: 5-6. I found myself focusing on verse 5 in a way I hadn't really before - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding." To really focus on just these two things and how they look in my heart and life right now has been good. Even if I missed the rest of the livestream conference, I think I heard what I needed to hear. For the last couple of weeks this verse has been constantly on my mind.
Well, that was far more than what I am up today - sorry! But thanks too - for listening!
