I'm so thankful for all that this day means for us! Sometimes it gets lost for a little while in the busyness and tiredness. This week in general has been really busy for me. I can't say that as I have thought of what I needed to accomplish that I remembered every minute the thankfulness and awe of the celebration of Jesus's death and resurrection. I admit that sometimes life stuff takes over too much. But then a quiet moment comes - and I find that awe again. I was praying for some family last night and it began to hit me how much a borrowed tomb and then an empty tomb covers so much. Where it looks like there is only death, there is LIFE because Jesus is alive!
I have to have a little moment of mommy brag here too. When my kids were quite small (maybe 3 and 1), I started 3 traditions with them over the week of Easter. We make Easter cookies (think decorated Christmas cookies only with Easter themes.) We have a cross made out of scrap wood that we tack either verses or promises or things we are thankful for on it. And we do a "resurrection egg" hunt. My kids are now 8 and 6. When we started these things, I told them the Easter story in the process. But now, they tell ME the Easter story, sometimes even adding details or insights that I did not teach them but that are right on. This year on our wooden cross, DS (8) wanted to put things on that we need - like salvation, Jesus, wisdom. It just makes my heart so happy to watch them not only want to do these simple traditions we started but also to grow in real understanding of the significance of what Easter means. This year I threw a new egg into the resurrection egg hunt by filling one egg with one of DD's small toy snakes and a sticker of an apple, with the idea of taking them back to Genesis and why we need Easter. They figured it out without any help from me. It really is an amazing and beautiful thing to watch my kids truly get it.
Hope you ladies all had a good Easter with moments to remember through the busyness!
