Because Thanksgiving is coming up and also because I need to remember to keep things in perspective right now...What are you thankful for this week?
One of the things that I have been so thankful for and that has given me right perspective on hard days lately is watching my kids grow in God. My DS (8) has recently transitioned to reading his Bible on his own (as opposed to me reading outloud to him) because he said he gets less distracted and pays more attention when he reads it himself. Instead of reading TO him, I now read along with him so we can talk about it and answer questions that come up. With that transition, it is truly beautiful to watch how God speaks to my DS personally through His word - not things that I have taught him or told him but things that I sometimes haven't even seen and I know that it is God speaking to my son!
In a similar line, I am thankful for AWANA and the support it adds to what we teach at home. Among the things. that my DD (5) has done this year so far has been to memorize the new testament books of the Bible. At such a young age, she knows more than many adults - more than I knew until I was into my 20s. That in itself is not important, but yet she is learning something she will use her whole life. As she gets to know what is in the Bible and where it is, she is preparing for God to speak to her through His word too.
Parenting has been frustratingly difficult in the last 3 months or so. But even when they are driving me nuts, I am thankful for the things I see them growing in that really matter.
So, what are you thankful for right now? And why?
