How is it almost the end of October??? Halloween, daylight savings ends.... and you know the holidays will be upon us so fast!!!!! How is your Christmas shopping going? Did you start??? I have been picking up gifts as I see them.... but those little gifts are just a small dent in the bigger picture. ... I'm anxious!!! LOL
What's your game plan? Do you have one??

I have no plan. But my kids are adults so that is ok. DD wants a gift and makes good lists. The boys are happy with money Ds1 doesn't even really want money as he is self supporting and doing very well it makes it a challenge to gift him anything.

I agree - what happened to October? Where did it go? LOL! I started picking up little things as I saw them quite awhile ago. I just got DS to give me a Christmas list a couple days ago - and made sure he understood that this was just ideas and he would not end up with everything on his list. I still have to corral DD - and hope she gives me more than a long list of various stuffed animals like last year. I have a couple of combined things I know I want to get them. Otherwise, I'm still trying to plan.

October literally flew by! I don't have a plan but I have been buying Christmas gifts here and there when I've seen something I think someone would like. I asked my parents to give me a wish list. I find they are the hardest to buy for. I'm usually annoyed when I see "Christmas" in the stores so early. For some reason I don't mind this year. I'll just be happy to see Halloween gone lol.

no plan yet. But I did shop at our local garden/lawncare store.....which might seem odd, but they have the best (and most expensive) holiday decorations in town. So that did get me in the mood a little....
Every year I saw I will cut back, and i really need to...but it is the only time I buy gifts for the family.
I really need to clean and decorate this year - going to start just after halloween - to get it done by Dec...so Dec can be spent baking and stuff.
I never shop - it's all amazon.com

I know!! I can't believe October is just gone! I have a few things I bought for Christmas because I buy from Mercy House (they offer work for girls who are at their maternity house in Africa). Otherwise, not so much. We have over $4000 of medical bills I need to pay off, so I sat down to list all the gifts we need to buy and I'm a little overwhelmed! It'll work out. It always does. Most everyone wants gift cards, so I don't do a lot of actual shopping. We get the teachers a little something, but I usually do that on Black Friday. Otherwise, I usually don't have a ton of actual shopping to do. I'm going to start now picking up gift cards to spread out the expense. This Christmas will be very different with my dad gone. His birthday was on Christmas Eve, so there's that too. I am thinking of having a little "party" for him where we share all our favorite memories. I figure we'll all be thinking of him anyway, and trying to act like everything is fine probably won't work. So, I'm thinking of doing that instead. Is that totally dumb?

My sister's birthday was 2 weeks after she passed away. I think we were all still in shock or numb or whatever. We did have a big dinner on her birthday in her honor. Lobsters, wine, her favorite dessert. It was horribly sad, but we managed to laugh and celebrate the wonderful person she was. She was cremated and we had her ashes there at my Mom's house, so she was there with us…. I know some would find that morbid.. but it was all pretty horrific losing her, so that did not seem all that morbid at the time. (Acting like all is well is a waste of time and energy. Mourn, grieve, share stories, love and laugh… it's part of the grief process and necessary for healing) YES… celebrate your Dad. Sharing stories is wonderful. There will probably be tears, but make sure you laugh, too. He would surely want you to be together and be happy . He's only just away for now… ( that is how I look at it. This separation is temporary and we will all be together again when He calls us)

I saw a thing on pinterest - where you make xmas ornaments out of copies of photographs.
i am thinking of doing that this year......the one i saw was making copies of pics, so they turned out to be about 3 cents per ornaments
anyway - i was thinking a small tree with nothing but pics of family members.....so maybe a time spent to just tell the grandkids who that person was and something about them, or use it as a daily prayer time.....and a way to keep extended family near and dear.
