We went to the town marina, mainly to have lunch with a friend. We did not have special glasses.... but I thought a camera would get some of the eclipse. ..wrong...just looked like the sun. A nice man let us use his glasses for a minute... very cool. The sun looked like an orange crescent with the moon blacking out most of it . It was a good day. Caught up with a friend , had the most scrumptious grilled cheese and some onion rings, and some homemade Italian ice... saw boats and paddle boarders, got some sun and fresh air..... WIN-WIN-WIN

I was a work and we were really busy. But we all got a chance sporadically to dash outside and take a look and then get back to what we were doing. Up here, we are just north of the total eclipse line - we were about 96% or something like that. We didn't have any special glassed or anything but just the light change alone was cool - it is hard to describe, but the light just got weird. It was cool, although I was disappointed it didn't get dark - just weird light.
DH and the kids were at home and they used a pin-hole projector with pieces of cardboard. They said they could see the crescent that way. DS also said he could feel it get colder. (I have a friend in Idaho who's DD is totally blind - she said her DD noticed the temperature change through the process.)
To me, I don't think it was as exciting as all the hype, even if it is a rare occurrence. But it was kind of cool still.

Pretty cool your friend's blind daughter was able to feel the temperature difference too. I was at my volunteer job today and was able to pop outside a couple times. Another volunteer had brought special glasses to view the eclipse and she let all of us take a turn. I was surprised it didn't get darker than it did. Just that weird shadowy light like you described.

DD and I left a volunteer gig in bright sunshine 10 minutes into the eclipse; our glasses were at home. By the time we got the eight blocks to our house it was total cloud clover. Sad. The birds were crazy; flying in and out of the trees, walking around in the street, making noises we had never heard before.
I was sitting outside with the dog just because it was a cool temps. DD brought out her eclipse glasses to put them on the dog for a photo op. DS heard the door open, looked out his window and saw some sunlight. He came running out, glasses in hand. Just as he got outside, the clouds broke long enough for us all to see. DH managed to get outside for a minute too. Goal accomplished.
We were only at 83% totality here in Minnesota. Not extremely exciting but definitely interesting. DS is an aerospace engineer SO he was thrilled at the science behind it all; the rotation of the earth, the path of the moon, and all that other sciencey stuff.

We were at 87% here in Chicago. But as soon as the eclipse started the clouds rolled in. Wish I could have driven down state to experience 100%. My oldest went with friends. She said it was incredible. I asked my youngest if she wanted to take off school for it and her & I would drive down. But it was the first day of school and she didn't want to miss. My husband was walking between buildings at the hospital during the eclipse and said there were people (doctors & nurses included) looking at the sun without special glasses during the eclipse. Dd said same thing at the high school.

I live under 30 minutes from an area that had total full viewing .. near Hopkinsville ky. I went to my local park to walk and viewed it there and then did my daily exercise walk. It was really neat how the temps cooled.. it was such a hot day but the temp drop allowed for a pleasant walking experience. The sky was also very different looking. I was amazed as God showed off part of His creation. .. I know this pales in comparison as to what we will behold when we see Him in Glory!

It was dark and raining here,so we couldn't see anything. We were only 80% anyway----------next time we will be right in the path.
