So, I'm going way out of my comfort zone. In September a new friend has encouraged me to come to her bootcamp. It's twice a week from 9/13 - 10/15 from 9pm-11pm. (seriously - I'm usually in bed by 9pm!) My oldest dd is going with. Initially I had asked about the bootcamp for her - but my friend says how cool it would be for the 2 of us to go together. It's a bootcamp for roller derby. Yes, roller derby! My16 year old has been skating with a jr. roller derby team since January so we've become a derby family. I've been skating more and feel comfortable on skates. (I've always LOVED to skate). Now I probably will never skate in any bouts and that's ok. So, starting today we are embarking on a challenge her at our house. To get ready for derby bootcamp. We've got a long way to go, but are excited. The great thing about roller derby is that the ladies are so encouraging. You don't have to be a certain size to play. Skaters come in all shapes and sizes. I did this for my 19 yo. She needs a little help getting involved in things. But I'm finding that I'm so looking forward to it for me too! So, I will focus on getting strong and eating good foods to fuel my body. Putting away the "weight loss mentality" for a while and just going to concentrate on being healthy and active.

So, I have 2 sessions under my belt now. I hurt in places that I never knew there was muscle hiding. My oldest is struggling. She's very hard on herself. The women are absolutely FANTASTIC about encouraging all of us. Dd broke down in tears over how they treated her last week. She has found her * people *. I am by far the oldest one in the bootcamp. But that's ok. I'm enjoying myself. One of the coaches also coaches my youngest dd derby team. We've been texting back and forth. She's so supportive! Just what I needed. Tomorrow night is session 3. Not sure what's in store. Hopefully not 27/5 - 27 laps in 5 minutes. I think my legs were going to fall off last Sunday. I successfully completed 17-1/2. Not bad for someone who's turning 50 in a few days! I'm holding my own and excited to see how I improve weekly.

I'm still plugging along. My endurance is increasing. I'm keeping up with the other skaters. I still can't do 27 laps in 5 minutes but I am improving.
My dd is also having a better time and improving. So glad she's enjoying herself now. We'll both be trying out for the team next Wednesday! ACK! I'm nervous and excited at the same time.
I'm feeling pretty good about myself and abilities. This has done wonders for my self confidence.

Tryouts on the 18th went well. I attended the 2nd tryout last night but fell during a jump and hit my head. Thankfully I was wearing a helmet. I had to sit out after that. They take concussions pretty seriously. My head is ok today. I think I gave myself whiplash - my neck and shoulders are pretty sore today.
My dd did fantastic. She's quite different now than when we first started. We both feel stronger. I can almost hold a plank for the full minute!
We'll know after this Wednesday (25th) if we've made the team.

Great job bot of you! (Not the head-hitting part but the rest!) Glad your head is okay. Praying your neck and shoulders feel better soon.
