Our windows are rotted and leaking. The condensate is awful, especially in the winter.
We are replacing with triple pane vinyl windows that have the wooden look on the interior.
Our debate is over the patio door. I would love to have blinds in the door (lifetime warranty, too!). However, that means only double pane. Has anyone gone through this (in the cold north) and have words of wisdom? Will I regret opting for the blinds instead of the triple pane?
Pros for the blinds:
privacy
sun glare on tv when I exercise nearly every afternoon
Cons:
condensate that needs to be wiped?
heat loss?
fogging up between panes of glass?

Double panes are usually enough where I live - we get cold but not as cold for as long usually. I would LOVE the fact the the blinds would not need to be cleaned. (I have no blinds in my house anymore because they are so awful to clean.) Where I live, I think that would trump triple panes.
But in your climate... I don't know...

We are on an unprotected ridge - major winds. However, the door is on the south side of the house and not subject to the extreme winds we typically get.

The wind doesn't come in as badly on that side, though.

We have a west facing door that has the blinds in them. We get a lot of wind that hits that side of the house as there is nothing that blocks the wind. It does not get condensation. It is cooler by that door in the winter when we have the blinds all the way open. So we mainly leave them open slatted and not fully raised on really cold days. We will shut them in the summer once the sun gets on that side of the house in the late afternoon to keep the heat out.
I'm glad we have the blinds and not a solid door. I really enjoy the view and especially the sunsets.

It's all ordered. We went with the blinds. Hopefully I won't regret it. They'll be installed mid to late May since I wanted our homeschool year to be wrapped up before we started that chaos. Two to three days. All the main floor windows, plus the patio door.
I'm excited!

I would like the blinds. Hope it goes well for insulation!

I have the blinds in my patio door and I LOVE IT. We really have to because the back of our house faces east ... in the morning when we're getting ready to go or just evening hanging out in the kitchen, it's nice to close the blinds when we need to. I would not like to have exterior blinds.
