Im needing to find a new location for the litter box. I used to keep it in the main bathroom but the cat tends to get litter all over the floor and then people track through it. I moved it to the guest room but I have to move it every time someone spends the night. Any suggestions??

Ours was in the downstairs bathroom. But because of the same problem I moved it up. Plus I didn't like when guests would use my bathroom and right there is the litterbox.
right now it's in the upstairs bathroom but I have to constantly sweep up in there because he gets litter everywhere. I wonder if a covered box would be better?
My dh wants it in a high traffic area otherwise our dd will forget to scoop (it's her job).

It's a covered litter box and she still manages to get litter all over the floor! :/

Mine is in the laundry room (aka main entry to our house) - its about the only spot that works well in this house.
Have you tried pelleted litter? I use wood pellets (like for a pellet stove). There are also other pellets like recycled denim (I think?). It might help with the tracking problem. BUT, some cats are picky about their litter so be aware of that should you decide to try to switch.

Our laundry room is basically a tiny hall way going from the indoor garage door into the house. I'm not sure I could squeeze a litter box in there. Hmmmm?? Something to think about for sure.....

Would a cat door in the door between the garage/house be an option? And then put the litter box out there. Where I used to live, I had an enclosed porch that I kept the cat box on - the cats went through a cat door in that door to the porch to access it. Cats can be picky though. Changing location drastically may cause issues - or it may not. Cats are just that way!

We have ours ( a covered litter box with a textured mat in front of it) in the basement bathroom. The cover helps a little, the mat helps a bit more… but litter still finds its way out… Not too bad.. I keep a dustpan nearby. The mat is helpful… Link to a similar one: www.walmart.com/ip/LM1-LITTER-MAT-Cats-Cats/10315201

My litter boxes are in the laundry room------they are the huge covered ones. yes,I was thinking the same thing as Shannon-some cats don't like to have their litter boxes moved and will go in the spot where it USED to be.

I have a small bathroom that is very near the back door and kitchen. It has an old fashion sink that is attached to the wall w/ metal frame legs. I keep it under the sink
I do change it every day, so i don't have cat smell in my kitchen

One thing you might consider is getting one of those larger, lidded ones -- and using the lid part only.
Meaning, turn the lid upside down and pour the kitty litter inside there. It's deeper, so less gets splashed out when they're doing their incessant covering up.
We've done that before (not for that reason, I can't remember why we did it, but that was a side-benefit.)
