so my dks are in this habit of wearing jeans once and tossing them into the dirty laundry basket. Is this normal for most families? Personally, I wear my jeans at least twice/three+ times (not consecutively - I rotate!) if I haven't spilled If there are obvious spills or stains, no problem, I'll wash them! How many times is reasonable for a 9, 10 or 14 year old to wear a pair of jeans (not even asking for two days in a row!) before they get washed?

reasonable and kids is an oxymoron! hahahaha
I just "pretend" to wash the jeans after only one wear. they go right back into their clean laundry basket. but then I only have one kid that wears jeans of any kind. ds2 only wear athletic style pants...no denim ever.
Honestly I wear my jeans about 2 or 3 times before washing.

My kids are famous for that! Even now at almost 17 and 18, they still will wear something for 2 hrs and throw it in the laundry. I will just pull it out and put it back in their drawers or closet.
Obviously athletic type pants and shorts get sweaty/smelly easier, but they are easy to wash/dry.
But jeans…. unless they are visibly dirty … I would like them to wear them 2 or 3 times.
Does that happen? Probably not as often as I'd like. I also have them doing more of their own laundry. They are definitely old enough. Good thing to know how to do.

Seems kids have a tendency to throw everything in the dirty laundry after one wearing. I usually pulled them out and reminded them that clothes can be worn a couple times before they need washing as long as nothing was spilled on them and they don't stink.

I don't wash clean clothes. Jeans are to be worn 3x (consecutively or not) before they are washed... which means that with 2 pair and no jeans on Sunday... they don't need jeans washed more than once/week (which is when we do laundry anyway). Honestly, I'll do the same with other pants if they're not actually dirty/stained. My grandmother worked in a textile factory and she often commented to my mother, "You young people just wash your clothes to death washing them after every wearing". In her mind "worn once for a few hours" did not equal "dirty and needs to be washed" and she'd been a farm daughter/wife for decades. Certainly socks, undergarments, most shirts were "dirty after one wearing", but pants, dresses/skirts... not a chance.
