Dh told me to pick something out. My current washer was a front loader. Not sure if I want to go back to that or not. Tired of that gasket getting all gunky. Maybe if everyone in my family wiped it out every time, but they haven't.
What do you have? What is the capacity and does it work for your family size?

I have an old set that is 25 yrs old. Dh has fixed it a few times, but I have no desire to get a new one. They seem to be nothing but trouble and only last a few years. I hope that you can find a good one.

I had a front loader. It had a new issue every few months. Hated it!!!! I replaced it ( when the drum finally broke after only 4 years… ) with a Speed Queen Top loader. It is big, powerful, quiet and has no extra high tech features that will inevitably have expensive issues to fix). Cleans better than any machine I have ever owned, much faster cycles ( half of the front loader's time) …. I do a TON of laundry! www.shoretv.com/products/Speed-Queen/spq/awn432.html

I have an HE LG Top Loader. We've had it for about 4-5 years. I'm not sure the capacity, but it was the largest available when I bought it. I like it just fine, and it does a good job cleaning. However, when I need to get a new washer, I'm planning to look at the Speed Queens. I've heard wonderful things about them and that they last forever. Even though it's showing no signs of it, I'm afraid my current washer could conk out any moment since it seems none of the new ones last very long anymore.

Been there - done that My kenmore washer of over 20 years bit the dust. I bought this one www.sears.com/kenmore-2626134k-4.8-cu-ft-patriotic-top-load/p-02626134000P?plpSellerId=Sears&prdNo=4&blockNo=4&blockType=G4It was $200 less than the solid white one of the same size (because it had the weird colors of the American Flag on the control panel).....for $200 off, I can handle the little color stripes) We had a weird delivery / pick up, not delivery thing going on.....but once we got the machine, it has worked great. It is HUGE....it says I can wash 21 towels at one time. I am not even sure I own that many towels. It surely would have been nice to have this large of a washer when all the boys were home.

I have a large capacity washer. I won't compromise on that as I like to wash blankets and stuff lots of denim in there.
We've had our set about 4 yrs. now, I guess. It's LG front load. I like it but I won't buy a front load again for the reason that you mention. I haven't had any trouble, as I keep it clean, but one time I forgot laundry and oh my .... took me about 7 clean cycle loads to get the washing machine to smell clean. NEVER again. When I had the washing machine installed the service man explained to me that the water line hangs or lays low & it prevents the water from being fully drained. What a BAD design!!!
My next set (I think) will be just a good, basic Kenmore.

WOW! That is huge! I picked a couple out online that had what I was looking for. Dh called and spoke to someone at the place and decided on the LG 4.5 Cu. Top loader. (This was my #1 choice because of the extra high spin cycle.) My youngest teenager just brought 3 loads of laundry to the basement. 3 LOAD OF LAUNDRY! I could clobber her. Big baskets too. I'm tempted to send her to the laundry mat.
