I somehow ended up with a big cookie tin of buttons - like clothing buttons. The tin came with a box of stuff last year that was my grandmas. II have always kept a few around (like the extras that sometimes come on a piece of clothing), but I don't need this many!
I am not crafty (not even with my kids.) Except for fixing holes in things and occasionally replacing a single button, I do not sew.
So any thoughts on what I could do with this tin - some place to give them to that could use them?

Math manipulatives! Sorting exercises, practice with addition and subtraction. Or hand the kids a pile of buttons, paper, and glue (or tape) and tell them to see what they can design. You don't have to be crafty with them, just admire their work. Quilters will sometimes use buttons as embellishments, so if you know someone who quilts, maybe see if they could use them?

We have legos (tons of legos) for sorting and math practice - that's what we have used with DS. Buttons is just extra stuff lying around. DD might enjoy gluing them or something though. Maybe tomorrow I'll let her have at it!

I know you aren't crafty.....but consider starting. This is a well loved family craft made from my grandma's button box.

Love that, Lisa!!
Also, I remember stringing buttons onto a thin elastic and making necklaces with my grandma when I was a little girl!

Love that, Lisa!! Also, I remember stringing buttons onto a thin elastic and making necklaces with my grandma when I was a little girl! My mom had a metal cookie tin of my grandmother's buttons; the grandma who died years before I was born. I spent hours and hours and even more hours stringing those buttons, sorting those buttons, just running my hands through those buttons. I wonder what happened to those buttons.

here are some pictures on pinterest If I had a container of buttons from my grandmother - I might make a shadow box with an older photograph and make some type of display

That was weird. I put in 3 links.....and it disappeared from my post.
I went to pinterest, and typed in pillows with buttons.....and several pictures showed up.....with buttons stitched in a heart shape, or spelling out the word LOVE,....or in a snowflake design. Very pretty way to display older buttons

haha - you all are fare more capable of doing something pretty with these buttons than I am! I do like the "idea" of crafts. But my interests take me other places and I'd never get around to doing them. Not to mention that with my ability to make things look pretty, they would look like my kids did it! I'm all about how cute kid crafts can be but when mama's attempt looks like my almost 5 yo's best then... When dd needs something to do tomorrow, I'm going to see if she can do something fun with them. And then, whatever remains when my kids are done...Who wants some buttons to make neat stuff with?

I'd put them in a mason jar and display them somewhere.

Well ..... if it wouldn't cost too much to ship them to me, I'd love to take your buttons! I've been needing to get a post up about my need for buttons .... for my high school class room!!! I teach Home Ec.
I'll gladly pay shipping if it isn't too much. Thanks!
