So I stepped on a thumb tack last week while we were in the caribbean. Yes it was dirty and rusty. Trying to remember when I had my last Tetanus booster. I think it was July 2009. At first glance, my Dr. doesn't show that date but I seem to recall that date.
In 2011 or 2012 I fell good & banged up my knee pretty bad in the caribbean & didn't need a Tetanus bc I thought I'd had it in 2009.
Now ... last week, we found a thumb tack in my shoe when I took my shoes off @ the airport. I don't actually think that it came thru my shoe, but now my anxiety is heightened & I just don't know because it could have happened that day or a couple of days prior. I just am not remembering, but I sort of remember feeling something "on" my foot. I don't know if it was a prickly feeling. Was too busy having fun ... can't recall.
Either way, I would know if I injured my foot & I did not. But not sure if I should get a booster.
I hate pumping chemicals into my body. So I'm keeping an eye on things.
I don't have a sore or wound or anything. I finally found an identical thumb tack here & when dh comes home, we'll poke it in the hole in my shoe to see if I comes thru.
I don't think it will.
I should be ok then, right?

I'd get a booster if I were you with your health situations. It's not a risk worth taking. Even if you had one in 2009, that's 8 years. With your daughter married and perhaps grandchildren coming in a few years, I'd get the Tdap (tetanus with pertussis). Whooping cough is making a scary resurgence in the US and they recommend anyone who will be around an infant be boostered. You could kill 2 birds with one stone; make sure YOU are ok and protect future babies in your life as well.
And I do keep up on my tetanus booster but my family practice clinic has it all computerized so they remind me whenever I'm due for an immunization. I got the Tdap last time and I'm glad I did because I unexpectedly began caring for newborns last year so I felt like I had prepared in advance for their safety.

If it could have injured your foot, then I would booster.
My last booster was with the Tdap in 2012 when DD was born. Because of the prevalence of whooping cough these days, my dr recommended a booster when she was born. It has been like 8 years since my last tetanus anyway.
I do keep up on tetanus vaccine anyway though. But then my work always carries the risk of puncture wounds with nasty teeth or claws. I don't see that changing any time in the near or distant future.

I don't keep up with it (everyone is surprised, I know, LOL). I do think I had a Tdap when I had a baby but I don't know which baby.

I would get one as well.
When I got stuck by that dirty needle in the woods a few years ago - one of the first things they asked was when was my last Tetanus. I didn't know. So besides getting a whole host of other shots I had to get the Tetanus as well. They were more concerned with the Tetanus than me getting aids or hep C from the stick.

Yes I do. When pregnant with my 8 yo and then again this year after having an autistic boy bite me at work. Dr said if it has been over 8 years and there is need, to do the shot. For me, they said the human mouth is much dirtier than even a dog's mouth

Dog's are fairly clean by comparison.
