DH is going through the last small box from FIL's house. Among the things in there is a ziplock bag full of Canadian coins.
The last time I was in Canada (1998), I seem to remember the local bank saying they could exchange the bills but not the coins. I have no idea if this is still true - or if local banks can even exchange any of it still. (I don't know if other banks do/have done this around the country, but since I'm in Washington state it makes sense - at least back in the days before 9/11 when travel to Canada was as simple as drive through the border...)
So, any idea what I can do with these coins?

If you can't exchange them (try a bank, then the airport....you'll loose money a bit, but something is better than nothing)
donate them to an elementary school who might have an unit on Canada

There are online currency exchanges, but coins are going to be heavy to ship. Do you know how much you have?
Knowing me, I'd decide to go to Canada for a long weekend to spend the couple of bucks in coins I had. lol!

Knowing me, I'd decide to go to Canada for a long weekend to spend the couple of bucks in coins I had. lol! There's a bunch of quarters - so I'm guessing $20-30ish. Canada is only about a couple hundred miles from here - although I don't think there are any border crossings directly north of us so we would have to go west or east a ways first. But they require passports these days to get there. (Or enhanced driver's licensees but that would still leave the kids without something - and we don't have the enhanced licenses anyway.) Used to be so much easier - just ID I think. My last visit to Canada was a high school band trip to Victoria, BC. Now its more complicated... Lucy - good thought on donating them. I'd like the $ because I think there's enough to warrant it. But if its more trouble than its worth, I will check with DS's school. (Airport is a good thought too - although our airport might be to small to have any exchange...it might require an international airport which we don't have...)
