We are done with the clearing out/cleaning up of my Aunt's home.
Basement, attic, 4 car garage, 1st and 3rd floors.
It took 17 months. Kids worked thru last summer, all of April vacation, all of this Christmas break ( they have 3 days left!) DH took off this whole week and part of last.
80 years of stuff accumulated in every square inch of the house. You just would not believe. And we started the clean up last year. Filled three 30 yd dumpsters..packed tightly… so many pickups by the veterans, countless HUGE drop-offs to Good will and other agencies…. and have a huge storage unit packed full still…..
My husband and kids helped me immensely.
The closing was today. The walk thru went well.
I gave over the keys and had no sentimental tears….I grew up in that house. Was born and raised there, left there only when we got married. So many childhood memories. My Grandma +Aunt ( and Grandfather and Uncle) lived on the 1st floor, my Mom , Dad sister and I lived on the 3rd floor, and the 2nd had tenants.
But no tears. The last 17 months were so unrelenting. It was so hard… Backbreaking . Frustrating.
And now it is over! Soooo HAPPY!
And so is my Aunt. I worried about that. She knew it needed to be sold, she wanted it to be sold ( it is expensive to maintain a home when you are not living there… ( taxes, insurance , utilities, repairs and the worry that it is empty and someone may break in…) But still… it was her home for 80+ years… My Mom's home too… But they both are relieved and ecstatic.
I am too tired to do much more than sit here and say "huh, yay"! Tomorrow I will celebrate! Had to deal with buyer, lawyer, electric co, gas co, oil co, lawn care and snow removal people today.
But it is over! FINALLY!
Thank you all for your prayers and support!
