I went to bed last night at about 10:30, and I fully expected to wake up with Hillary Clinton as our president. I wasn't happy or excited about it (I hope that isn't offensive to anyone), but I even woke up in the middle of the night and prayed for her.
Imagine my shock when my husband told me Donald Trump was going to be our next president. (can't find the jaw drop emoticon -btw, does anyone know how to fix those??).
I got on FB and man, the whole thing is blowing up! I'm so glad I'll be gone most of today so I won't be on there too much. I just pray that people can be somewhat kind today.

i was! Very shocked. Neither were good choices. I had a terrible time voting. But I did. ( and am thankful we live in a free country where our voice matters…even when the outcome may be not what we wanted or expected)
When I went to bed, I really had no idea who would win, yet I was surprised this am.
I am sickened by the hatred and divisiveness that this election created… between the candidates as well as their supporters. That's not ok…. because we are still His children. We have a responsibility ( well, a command) to love one another...
Now all we can do is pray that people are civil and kind to one another , and that our leaders in government do what is right for the country.

I knew he had a decent chance based on where she campaigned over the last week. You send surrogates to "your" states to get out the vote... you send the candidate to where you NEED to win.
I'm running on 4 hrs sleep... God bless caffeine.

Not surprised at all !! Happy day for America. Not sure how you get "happy day for America" when the popular vote is very, very close and we're likely to have one candidate winning popular while the other candidate wins electoral. It's a very divided country. It may be a happy day for YOU, but neither result would have meant a happy day for the nation as a whole. I was surprised, because I honestly thought she would win. I knew I would be disappointed either way. I had steeled myself for the disappointment of her winning, so it's taking a bit for me to adjust to this different disappointment.

I will not apologize for being happy.
And, I don't understand why you felt you had to type YOU in all caps.
Unlike when Obama won, and he said "we won, deal with it"......I heard a very gracious and kind speech from President elect Trump last night.

I didn't ask you to apologize. I didn't say you shouldn't be happy. It makes sense that you would be happy, if he's the candidate you support.
But you said "Happy day for America." More than half of the Americans who cast votes did not vote for him and are not happy. Your statement does not acknowledge that.
I look at the huge divide between those who voted for Trump and those who voted for Clinton, and it makes me sad for my country. I know that division is a natural thing to happen when there are sinners involved, and given that 100% of voters fall into that category, we're pretty much bound to have division. But this election has really brought those divisions out into the open, and it saddens me. I've seen similar sentiments elsewhere online, from people who voted on all sides. So I just don't see this as a happy day for America.
The capital letters were to emphasize that word in the sentence, to draw attention to the contrast between your statement that it's a happy day for America and my counter that it's a happy day for you personally (and that would also apply to other individuals who support Trump). I'm sorry if I presented my ideas in a way that was perceived as yelling at you or something like that.
To recap: I don't have any issue with you personally being happy that your candidate won. (If Darrell Castle had won, well, I'd be amazed, but I'd also be VERY happy about it!) I do disagree with your statement that this is a happy day for America.

I completely understand and agree with you, purple!
I have friends who voted for Trump who aren't happy this morning, because they hated that he was (in their minds) the better of the options.
And, you are certainly right. When more people voted for the candidate that loss than the one that won, it's a tough day for many people and the nation.

Well, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Trump won the election. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't stay up last night. I was hopeful that Trump would win, but feared that Hillary had it.
What SURPRISED me was that Trump did not win by a slim margin, but by a blowout with the electoral states.
DH told me & I jumped right out of bed anxious to flip on the TV for the acceptance speech.

If this country went with popular vote....the mass of folks living in the major cities would always pick who they want, and the rest of the country, or states with smaller cities, their vote wouldn't ever count.
The founding fathers created a system that balances out the majority rule. If you look at the country map - the electoral map from a county position....look at how many counties voted for Trump....it truly was a blow out.

I probably shouldn't have put anything political on here. Oops! I just wondered if anyone else was surprised like I was. Thank you for being nice to each other even if you don't 100% agree! I know this was a very heated election and there were strong feelings on all sides, so I appreciate you all continuing to be kind with your words! Your'e awesome. I need to not get on FB though - it's so awful at the moment and I find myself morbidly fascinated! Sigh. No more FB for me!!!! Anyway, I didn't vote for either one, so right now, I'm just going to wait and see how things turn out. And yes, the electoral college is a bit weird but it definitely serves a purpose!

Me, too… There are a handful of Trump people gloating and still bashing Hillary… And a bunch of Hillary supporters so angry that Trump won and proclaiming it as the beginning of the end of our country... Neither is helping… the protests are not helping ( especially the ones that involve violence or damaging property…) It is what it is. ( i have always hated that statement.. DH says it a lot… makes me cringe) But it is true sometimes!! Now if we can all just put the election behind us and pray for our leaders ( because it's not just 1 leader…we have many), and continue to be kind, love, help one another , do and be our best for our selves, our families, our community …and mostly for Him. Never will we all agree on everything. And that's what makes life interesting and full, and opens our eyes to opinions and beliefs of others… You don't have to agree with everyone, but respect is important. We are all His children, no matter what our opinions.

I'm honestly not trying to upset you, and I think you've misunderstood what I'm trying to say, because you seem to be arguing against ideas I don't hold. The fault is likely mine for communicating poorly. Because of that, I think it would be better for me to just stop trying to explain and instead say, I'm glad for you that you're able to rejoice in the election results. So. Do you like chocolate? I'm in favor of chocolate. Can we be friends again based on that?

I have friends who voted for Trump who aren't happy this morning, because they hated that he was (in their minds) the better of the options. Me, totally! It made me physically sick to feel like that was the best option. I voted for the platform that would keep their hands off my ability to homeschool so that I can hopefully continue to teach them that we will love those around us in spite of what those that hold and want to hold our highest offices do. I think a little kindness and respect would go a long way in our government and it saddens me that we can't seem to find that. I voted a straight republican ticket because I couldn't bring myself to even bubble in the circle next to his name but I knew it was the only way I could vote against the platform that had said they would go after homeschooling. I'm praying for him same as did for Obama, I want him to be a success because if he fails we fail with him. And, Yes!! I vote Chocolate!!
