I didn't go to ds2's soccer game Monday night because I had some stuff to do. Tonight I was thinking I had until 4:30. Turns out dh just called to say we have to leave 20 minutes earlier. It is WAY far away, so I can't just go separately (plus we don't have enough cars). I have a load of laundry in the washing machine; I just sprayed down the bathroom to clean it and I still need to empty the dishwasher and clean up the kitchen - which, as usual, is a disaster! I also wanted to get some produce cut up so I can throw together ds2's lunch for tomorrow quickly when I get home. The dog is still not walked either (which means I'm not walked and won't get all my exercise in because by the time we get back it will be dark). I have a stack of journals on the couch that need to be graded too.
I just can't get everything done. I got up at 5:50 this morning and I STILL can't get everything done. I had an appointment with my insurance agent about life insurance and had to stop at the bread store. I did take a nap but I was so tired, I couldn't function.
I hate to skip another game. We have one on Saturday too. To be honest, I was praying that it would start storming so it would be cancelled. I just feel so overwhelmed all the time! ARGH!!!! How do women do it that work 40 hours a week? I'm working half of that and I can't get it all done!!!!!

I know you don't want to skip the game but if not getting all the things done that you need to will make you very stressed, then I would. I am in the same boat as you This working regularly is tough. I don't know how I worked full time with little ones. I am thinking that some things have to just go undone . Easier said than done. I know... can you do lunches in the morning? Finish the bathroom and walk dog and yourself tonight but take an abbreviated walk? It's hard...

AND no guilt... you did not spend the day doing nothing... you can only do so much .

Perhaps your family needs to make some choices? Either start pitching in more (and I realize they are all busy too) or accept that you will be missing some games. Because, no, you can't do it all...

Really-skip the game and get everything done and explain to your Son that you are overwhelmed.

My bil was one of 8 kids.....they went to a catholic parish, and every house in the block had 6, or 9, a couple of families with 12 and one with more...kids.
Those mom's NEVER....NEVER went to their kids games.
He said all the mom's stayed home and cooked....or gardened, or stood out on the side walk and chatted w/ each other while the kids played.
He said there were always kids somewhere - they all walked to school, which was a block away, and walked home....the mom's didn't even watch the kids leave in the morning. There were always an older kid about, and enough tattle tellers if anyone misbehaved... of course, not all 8 kids were at home at the same time......one of the older sisters was almost out of school when the youngest was a toddler.....
so why is it this generation of mom's feel guilty if we miss watching every thing our children do ?
I am also guilty, my kids did hockey, (or soccer or swimming or baseball) and I tried to go to all the games.....it was a crazy time - and housework was never done, homecooking rarely happened.
I am glad I spent time watching my son, but even now, looking back - I wish I had created a life for me a little bit during all of that.

I ended up going, but I took the journals along and graded them while riding to the game. Also, the field was such, I could sit in the car (yeah since it was cold and raining!), and I finished grading them. Dh and I also got a nice ride to chat, so that was good. Thanks for all the comments though. I think I'm going to shrug off the guilt, though. I do want to see my kids' games, but it's not like I never go either. If you added it all up, I could have probably written the Great American Novel with all that time! lol I think I'll just go when I can and call it even!

I figure this is such a relatively short period of time in our lives that I want those memories. The dirty kitchen and dirty laundry will always be there.
