DS is not quite 7 but he is reading well beyond his grade level (about 4 grade level.)
I have a few old books around from my childhood he could read, but I don't think they will interest him much. (I could see DD being more interested in my books when she is old enough - they are mostly animal and/or horse books.)
DS recently got a book at his school book fair from a series called "Ranger in Time" (about a dog who does search and rescue in time travel - adventure book.) He loved it and read through it quite fast!
There are other "Ranger in Time" books, and the library might have them - I have to check. But I'm also on the lookout for other books he might enjoy.
Any suggestions for roughly 4th grade level books that boys would enjoy?

An older series - that has 12 yr old twins (boy/girl), and younger twins (boy/girl)...The bobbsey twins. I read them to my kids, and give these books as gifts to young children.
The redwall series, The Boxcar children, just about anything by Roald Dahl, lots of Andrew Clements books (Frindle, A week in the woods), My side of the mountain, the Cay, Chitty Chitty bang bang (probably my favorite children's book ever...excellent) The house with a clock in it's walls (and entire series by same author) everything by Gary Paulsen - Hatchet series, Call me Francis Tucket series, The Percy Jackson series, the first few Harry Potter books, The Indian in the cuboard, A wrinkle in time,

I'd forgotten about the Boxcar Children - I liked those as a kid. DS would probably like those! I remember some of the others you mentioned too. Thanks for the suggestions! I may stop at the library this week while I'm out.

my 4th grader read through all the Big Nate books, diary of a wimpy kid books, some magic treehouse books but got bored with them, he has been slowly reading through a Dragon series I'm trying to get him to read the chronicles of narnia books. he has read several ronald dahl books too.

We've done some Magic Treehouse books. He likes them but they don't seem to hold his attention as much as the "Ranger in Time" book he read.
I'll look for some of the Big Nate and Diary of a Wimpy kids books at the library.
He might like the Narnia series. I have it but all in one big book - which might look a little overwhelming to him. Maybe I'll see if the library has them individually.

I love the Diary of a Wimpy kids....movies.....but I didn't care for the writing style in the books. (which is odd, usually people always think the book is better than the movie)

My 3rd grader (6th grade reading level, but for fun we don't always read at level) reads the wimpy kid books, the who was series, my weird school, stink, and goosebumps series.
He also reads a lot of non fiction books.
