Going to copy/paste part of my reply on Bronte's thread on the main board.
It's my Public Service Announcement!!!
Watch the deadline for the FAFSA….. The Federal Deadline is 6/30… so you think you have time ( and you do, for the federal aid)
But each school is different as far as the set deadline...
I will tell you my mistake…
DD's first year the FAFSA was due March 15th.
Her sophomore year, I thought I was doing great, getting the application filed by March 5th! WooHoo 10 days to spare ( I was mistakenly waiting to get my current tax info in….BAD idea. Just get the application in… you can add your tax info later) Well, the school changed the deadline to March 1st.
…. She still got her PELL grant ( because the federal deadline is 6/30), but missed out on over $7000.00 the school was ready to give her based on her 3.9 GPA. That , by far, was the worst mistake of my life. Here she is working her butt off to get good grades, and I blew it.
