We adopted a puppy on Saturday. (Yes, I am crazy.)
She's so sweet and such a good dog - so far! No accidents in the house or chewing! We're working on getting her in a crate, but so far she's not going for it.
Her name is Athena! I'll post pictures later. I'm smitten. Didn't think it would happen, but she's a keeper!

How old is she? I hope she soon goes into the crate for you.

She's 4 months. Just came back from dropping something off at the school and she had jumped out of the doggie play yard. so much for that idea. I need to call for obedience classes - quickly!

I think her picture is my avatar now - if I did that correctly. Took her to the vet last night. The adoption center has a deal with VCA vets here and she gets $500.00 worth of healthcare for free. He thinks she's older, probably 5-1/2 months since she's lost all her puppy teeth.
I had a very stressful day yesterday. I watch my 1 year old niece and the puppy is way too excited for her so I have to keep them separated. Baby crying, dog barking - it was a vicious circle. They were both better by afternoon but it wore on me. Praying for a quieter day today.
I need to find puppy classes today. We'll get $75.00 back after completion. Plus she needs them.

She's a cutie! It will take a few days for you all to adjust. Hopefully, it will get easier for you all soon.

She is adorable - she's going to be a beautiful dog. I agree with Bronte and Lori - crate training and time. You will get there. ((HUG))

I contacted the original shelter she came from but no one is calling me back. I'm going to wait until this afternoon to call again. Vet told me not to push the crate since she may have had a bad experience being crated going from 1 shelter to another.
Oh, and she has 3 parasites. Great.
anyone familiar with what it takes for a dog to become a "comfort animal"? LIke is there temperament testing?

Ellie, I agree with not pushing the crate training, especially since you don't know if there has been crate-related trauma in her past.
My sister has a rescue dog that was rescued from a puppy mill. The poor dog never left her create except to breed or birth. Even though she's been with my sister for years and has a secure, loving home, she will NOT go into a crate and nearly goes bazerk if you try to get her into one. So sad.

Yes - therapy dog. My dd (16) has anxiety/depression issues. Wondering if we should do this. HOw do you know if your puppy is suited for this? Right now she has so much energy and wants to bite/chew when you're trying to calm her down. Hoping she out grows that.
