Ah, but the goats won't eat your grass--they'll eat your trees!

They are a dual purpose. They have lovely wool, but are considered the crème de la crème of lamb meat. I have never eaten one because they are my babies, but sources who have say that they are delicious. Mostly, we just keep them as glorified lawn mowers. Ah, neat! They are pretty sheep! Ours were for meat growing up but my mom kept sheep for several years after she was done with raising lambs - she just liked them. I hope to have some goats in the next year for glorified lawn mowers. What kind of goats are you considering? We raised some La Mancha goaties for a while. They were fun and very sweet tempered.

Ah, but the goats won't eat your grass--they'll eat your trees! True! LOL! When I was growing up, we had several small trees in our pasture that had fences around them - between goats, sheep, llamas and horses (especially the goats and llamas) the poor trees would not have survived otherwise. But since I have exactly ONE tree on my property (and no where near where the goats will be), it shouldn't be an issue. Actually, I shouldn't say I want them as glorified "lawnmowers" - more like glorified "weedeaters"! Trees I am short on - but weeds I have plenty of! This summer though I do need to track down exactly what one of my weeds is. I think most of what I have is ok for goats to eat. But this one plant I'm still not sure what it is. I'll be looking for some sort of small goats. We had pygmies when I was young. But there are just one of several small breeds. Considering a couple of "bottle babies" for next spring if I can get my pasture ready.
