Have you started your Christmas baking yet? What are you planning to make? I've made Neiman Marcus cookies, butter tarts, shortbread cookies and sugar cookies. They're all gone! I need to make more buttertarts, more short bread cookies as well as winter wonderland bars, Choco caramel delights and hot rolls.

I'm going to finish baking bread for my neighbors today. The kids want to get them passed out today. Then I'm starting on bread for our pastors. This week I am going to make pies and the pie crust for our Christmas quiche. We already decorated some Christmas cookies but they are gone so I will probably make more this week. Not sure what else yet!

We typically do a LOT of Christmas baking. I'm so sad that there will be very little this year due to an illness in the family. Ah well, there is always next year.

Such a delish and wonderful gift to receive in this day and age where everything is store brought. No comparison to homemade that's for sure! How many loaves do you make at a time?

An old friend used to make loaves and loaves of handmade bread and give it as gifts. Such a delish and wonderful gift to receive in this day and age where everything is store brought. No comparison to homemade that's for sure! How many loaves do you make at a time? Depends if I'm making regular size or half-sized loaves. Regular each batch makes 2 loaves - I use them for our pastors and the neighbor we have the most relationship with. The half-sized loaves make 4 per batch. I use those for the rest of our neighbors as well as the kids' teachers and bus driver. (I'd make everyone regular size if I could but the amount of time that would take just isn't really doable.) Its actually the same bread I make all the time for my family (honey oatmeal bread) so it does help that I know the routine very well. (I have to make it 1-2 times a week just to keep my kids in supply - its the only bread my picky DD will eat!) I started giving it as gifts originally because its something that most people don't make themselves and its also something thats not a sweet. I hoped it would be different and enjoyable - and it seems to be!

Today's success:
2 pies done (or almost done) - 1 apple, 1 chocolate. I'll freeze them when they are cool/set.
1 raw pie crust made, laid in the pie plate and frozen for quiche later.
The house smells like apple pie right now. Yum!

I don't know what kind of filling you'd call it. Its chocolate, milk, sugar and eggs. Not sure it would be defined as all that safe since I'm not sure how much the eggs actually cook in the warmed/melted chocolate mixture...but I don't think about that and eat it anyway! It freezes quite well.
Chocolate covered licorice sounds good! What are butter tarts?

The chocolate pie sounds amazing!!! Buttertarts consist of a small pastry shells filled with a mixuture of brown sugar, butter, vanilla, raisins and an egg. Easy peasy. Once baked the filling is sweet and gooey. It's tastes similar to a pecan pie filling, minus the pecans Oldeset Dd and I are going to try a new cookie recipe today. They're called pan banging ginger molasses cookies
