My 15 yo dd is upstairs in tears. Severe headache. This is the worst it's been. Ongoing - almost a year now. I could just cry.
We've been to the doctor, emergency room, neurologist, eye doctor, dentist - even the psychologist. Had MRI's done, CAT scans, blood work. Nothing.
I don't know what else to do. Meds don't touch the pain. She's at the point where she won't take a pain relief because it doesn't even take the edge off.
What do I do? I can't help her.

I'm sorry. My ds1 suffers from migraines and it is so terrible to witness the pain and be unable to help. Meds don't help at all? What does the neurologist say? I will be praying for your dd. And for you. It's so frustrating and heartbreaking.

She's on meds from the neurologist. She takes it daily and it's not helping. We have a follow-up next month. I'm going to call and see if they'll prescribe a pain relief that she can take when a bad one hits. Right now it's a daily to head off headaches - if that makes sense.
I picked up some Excedrin Migraine, gave her 2 and sent her to bed.

Excedrin Migraine helps my DS usually if he catches the migraine on time.. He takes daily Topamax, and still gets migraines but not nearly as often as he used to on a different daily med.
SO sorry. I know the pain and heartache.

Our neurologist is on vacation. But the on-call doctor has prescribed Imitrix (is that the spelling?) I'm picking it up tonight. She's better now. Slept so much today.
Thank you all for the prayers.

Yes, Imitrex is helpful. My DS can no longer take it though because last year he had neurological changes ( inability to speak, then when he was able to speak, he used incorrect words or spoke gibberish, could not feel his arms or legs), with 2 particularly bad migraines that brought us to the ER. For some medical reason, Imitrex is contraindicated with neuro changes…. I am praying that your DD has relief and fewer headaches/migraines.

I'm so sorry.
My DD has migraines although the older she gets, the better it gets. She's 24 now. They were really bad for her when she was in high school. I'm sure hormones have something to do with this.
Yes, Imitrex helped my daughter. It is heartbreaking to watch them suffer.
Excedrin Migraine is the only thing that would help me when I had a migraine. Our Ped. wouldn't let me give it to DD until she was 18 though, since it contained Aspirin.
When DD was in her pre-teen years, her migraines were so bad that we'd have to take her to the ER sometimes. We had suppositories to give her for the nausea & vomiting, & when we took her to the ER they would give her IV fluids which helped.
I've also heard that giving oxygen can sometimes be effective.

Have you kept a food journal? My migraines were uncontrollable with meds. I figured out cheese were triggering 95% of them.

How horrible - for both of you.
have you thought about:
pesticides in the house or around the house? food allergies ? pet danger or allergies ? or maybe they are on a prescription that rubs off on dd
sinus / weather
have you thought of acupuncture ? or hypnosis ?
if you have ruled out all real possibilities, start thinking way outside the box
can she move rooms? change mattress ?

I'm so sorry - that sounds horrible! Praying you can find some long term answers for her. I second the foods thing. I've had a couple people I know who cut certain things from their diets and saw dramatic improvements!
